Based in Kansas City, Sam Kroesen is a general superintendent for Musselman & Hall. Sam has eight different foremen that report to him, and he tries to visit each job site as much as possible.
“I’m over eight foremen who cover a variety of installations like: structural concrete, flatwork, paving, curb, and decorative concrete,” Sam said. “Our decorative concrete work consists of exposed aggregates, color concrete, polishing, coatings…all that kind of stuff.”
Sam got started with Musselman straight out of high school in 1998. Over the next few years, his role changed from a general laborer to a cement mason before he tried his hand at decorative concrete. “In 2001, one of the owners of the company decided they wanted to get into decorative concrete. There were only a handful of us that went, and I was the youngest one at 21 years old. I went from doing small patios here and there to doing massive hardscape installations at places like Legends mall, Arrowhead Stadium, and Kauffman Stadium. There was one year that I worked in 17 different states doing decorative concrete.”
During his time working in decorative concrete, Sam got connected with Mark Grismore, a salesman that joined KC Bobcat’s Supply team at the very beginning.
“Mark gave me a call, and that’s where the relationship with Musselman & Hall and KC Bobcat started,” Sam said. “I started calling other foremen, saying, ‘Hey, give Mark a call. He’ll bring the stuff directly to you.’ It was such a nice change. I loved working with Mark, so when he went to KC Bobcat, I was like, ‘Well, that’s where I’m going to take my business too.’”
When Mark retired years later, Sam’s relationship with KC Bobcat continued. “Mark set the bar for the best sales experience I’ve ever had. When he retired, I was concerned, thinking, ‘Oh no, what are we going to get?’ But Ken Morgan has just picked up right there and done a great job. Everybody I’ve dealt with at KC Bobcat has been just terrific.”

It started with just decorative concrete stuff, but these days, we buy anything under the sun that KC Bobcat sells.

One of the things that Sam values most about KC Bobcat’s Supply salesmen is their commitment to show up in person on the job site, even bringing orders to his foremen when they’re in a pinch.
“We were at the Kansas City Zoo. Ken brought some stuff out to the foremen. I was there on site, so I introduced Ken to the owner of the company. Ken mentioned that they were changing their machinery that they used to produce the color for us. Our job was using the old system, and he saw we were wrapping up. He made sure that we had the amount of color we needed to finish that job before the change of system. Him being there and knowing, ‘Oh, they’re almost done, they should probably get all the color now’ really helped us out. It’s a wholly different experience from a salesman who just calls and never sees the job.”
Sam’s worked with lots of different contractor suppliers, and he says that there’s something different about KC Bobcat’s Supply department.
“It’s just not your average salesmen-buyer interaction at KC Bobcat. They don’t feel like salesmen. They’re your ally. They’re your friend. They ask you about personal things in your life. It feels far more like a partnership than just buying a product.”
